Collection Description: 

Scientists at the Arthropod-Borne Animal Diseases Research Unit maintain an insect cell collection of 10 strains of biting midges and mosquitoes for use in their studies on controlling insect-caused human and animal diseases. Research projects currently focus on bluetongue virus, epizootic hemorrhagic virus, West Nile virus, and vesicular stomatitis, and provide general information that may be applied to other arthropod-borne animal pathogen-caused diseases such as African horse sickness, anaplasmosis, heartwater fever, rift valley fever and akabane.
